Has coming up with new blog ideas been draining your creativity pool dry? Are your brainstorming sessions leaving your mind spinning as your ideas go round and round in circles?
It’s time for a perspective change… What about a refresh?
Of course you want to keep a sky-high standard for your blog content, so your ideas need to be, well, THE BEST. But what if the blogs you’ve already written are all you need for a little inspiration, or even just a re-post.
You’ve created crazy amounts of beautifully curated blog posts. None of them deserve to be removed, but some of them are slightly… expired. So what are your options here?
Dusting Off Forgotten Gems
We all have that one book that sits at the back of the bookshelf waiting to be opened. It’s an absolute gem! You’ve read it before, and year after year you promise that this will be the year you pick that book up and enjoy every word on its delicate pages once again. But somehow time slips away and that book sits, collecting more dust, soon to be forgotten all over again.
Don’t let any of your hidden gems be forgotten, 5 pages deep on your website. Everyone wants to showcase their best work, so how about moving some of your greatest hits to a “best of” folder on the first page?
Show Off (Just a Little)
Everyone has their greatest hits! Van Gogh had “a Starry Night”, Elton John had “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”, and the rest of us plebs have a few great blog articles that stand out from the rest.
We can re-purpose some of our ‘greatest hits’ and use them for guest blogs. Guest blogs post your article on their website (if they think it’s worthy). This allows more eyes to see and appreciate it, and drives traffic to your site. This means more exposure for your brand and possibly a lead or two.
The Good Old “Re-post”
One of the very first posts you ever wrote, had you spent hours perfecting every syllable. You know the one I’m talking about. Problem is, you had an audience of about ten, five of which were family members. And the only comments it attracted were from… your dear old Mum. It’s more than likely that your new readers haven’t had the chance to experience this gripping piece of content.
For situations like these, there’s no shame in a little re-post. Give it a quick read-through and update any information that may need it. And then… hit post. Some old posts deserve to be relived.
The Snippet Effect
When re-reading your blog posts, you sometimes come across a real zinger of a line. You chuckle to yourself and subconsciously wish everyone found you as funny as you find yourself. It’s at times like these that we need to share our humour with the world. You got a little creative with your words, so why not be proud of it?
Using snippets from your blog post in social media posts will draw attention to your way with words, and lead traffic to your blog post. And if your audience finds you as funny as you find yourself, hey presto! You might have a lead!
Use The Old Stuff as a Starting Point
Do you remember the series ‘Friends’? Just kidding. Of course you remember ‘Friends’. The sitcom revolutionized our entire lives. After months of binge-watching on Netflix, it came to an end. Left with nothing but an empty hole in my heart, I tried to move on with my life (unsuccessfully might I add).
Enter Joey. A lovable main character in the adored ‘Friends’ series, Joey Tribbiani. Producers sought to carry on the ‘Friends’ legacy by taking one lovable character and creating a whole new series just around him. They named it “Joey” (shocker).
‘Joey’ was a spin-off series. In the same way, you can create spin-offs of your old blog content. Take one great idea from your original blog post and create a whole new blog post expounding on that one idea.
Same Book, New Cover
Sorry to disappoint, but the majority of us earth-dwellers are inherently lazy. Reading whole blog articles doesn’t come naturally to a large portion of the population, meaning a lot of your content is going unread. I mean, they could have missed the best part! So what can we do about it?
Changing your blog content into different mediums to suit a larger audience may be the answer you’re looking for. Podcasts, audiobooks and videos could reach more people just because they’re suited to the lazy bunch that is humanity.
Let’s face it, listening is easier on the brain than reading is. And even easier than that, is watching a video.
A Happy Ending…
Don’t let old content slip through the cracks. There are plenty of ways to bring it back to life and make it work for you. It just takes a little thought.
Sift through all your blog posts. Some might not be worth keeping around but there may be a zinger or two that can be reused. And if the wording wasn’t great, maybe the idea could be a hit if you re-packaged it. Put a bow on it. And gifted it to the right audience.
One of your ‘greatest hits’ could be sitting around, waiting to be revived. So if your creativity is dwindling, take a walk down memory lane; your past-self may just inspire you.
